Picture this: four grad-students from West Virginia, up to their ears in student loans and pipe
dreams. That’s what drove us to the Alaskan wilderness.
Well that, and a research grant from the dean to dig for gold in the Fortymile River.
Panning for gold ain’t for the faint of heart. It’s for the desperate. The adventurer. The hungry.
Know what I mean?
Well, it was the last day of our Alaskan dig and we had squat. Nada. Zilch. Imagine desperate,
and we were about twenty miles past that.
But then the tides changed and you won’t believe the brick of gold we hauled out of that water.
